PTFE GASKETS, PRODUCTS & PTFE SHEET

Virgin PTFE provides an exceptional sealing material and is available in many forms

PTFE gaskets and PTFE products exhibits the following properties:

  • A resistance to virtually all corrosive chemicals with the exception of fluorine, some fluorochemicals and molten alkali metals
  • A very low coefficient of friction
  • Non-flammable
  • Non-ageing properties
  • Non-toxic
  • Anti-stick properties
  • Excellent tensile strength
  • Moisture and U.V. resistance
  • Excellent dielectric properties

Filled PTFE : In spite of the above properties, pure PTFE is inadequate for some engineering uses. Mechanical applications especially require better physical characteristics. A proper combination of inorganic and metallic fillers will further enhance the materials creep and wear resistance, thermal conductivity, dimensional stability and hardness. The more common fillers are:

  • 15% glass
  • 25% glass
  • 60% bronze
  • 15% graphite
  • 15% glass / 5% graphite
  • 25% carbon.

PTFE is suitable for temperatures between -200°C to +260°C

Expanded PTFE Sheeting

Exflon PTFE gasket sheet is made of 100% expanded P.T.F.E. by using special process that produces a uniform and highly fibrillated microstructure with a great lot of fibers running in multidirection. These create a soft and pliable, yet very tough gasket that has excellent resistance of pressing, creep relaxation and cold flow.

Expanded PTFE sheet possesses universal resistance against common chemicals, except melted alkali metal, fluorine at liquid and gas states. It can be stored without any time limits and can seal uneven and damaged flanges.

Suitable for use against :

  • Acids
  • Alkalis
  • Corrosive Fluids
  • Oils
  • Solvents

For use in the following industries

  • Food & Beverage
  • Pharmaceutical
  • Chemical
  • Petrochemical
  • Distillery
  • Marine
  • Power Generation
  • Paper

Metal detectable PTFE

Metal detectable PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) is a specialized type of PTFE sheet that is infused with metal particles or additives, making it detectable by metal detectors commonly used in the food processing and pharmaceutical industries.

PTFE is a well-known fluoropolymer with exceptional non-stick properties, chemical resistance, and high-temperature tolerance. By adding metal detectable elements to PTFE products it becomes easier to identify and locate any potential contamination of PTFE components in the production line.

The primary purpose of using metal detectable PTFE is to prevent product contamination.

In industries where PTFE materials are used for seals, gaskets, o-rings, or other components, there's always a risk of these materials accidentally entering the production line and contaminating the final product.

By incorporating metal particles or additives into the PTFE, manufacturers can ensure that if any small particles or fragments of PTFE enter the food or pharmaceutical processing line, they can be easily detected and removed using metal detection equipment. This allows for quick identification and removal of potential contaminants, minimizing the risk of product contamination.

It's important to note that metal detectable PTFE may have slightly different properties compared to standard PTFE due to the presence of metal additives. However, the essential characteristics of PTFE, such as its non-stick properties, chemical resistance, and high-temperature performance, are typically retained.

Metal detectable PTFE is widely used in the food processing industry, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and other sensitive industries where product purity is crucial.

It helps enhance product safety, quality, and compliance with regulatory standards.

At Yorkshire Gaskets we offer metal detectable PTFE materials in various forms, including sheets, tapes, rods, and custom-molded components, to suit specific application needs.

PTFE TAPES & PTFE SEAL THREADS

Coil of Expanded PTFE joint sealant.

Expanded PTFE Joint Sealant

Expanded PTFE Joint Sealant is derived from 100% virgin PTFE, expanded into a highly fibrillated structure, resulting in distinctive properties compared to conventional PTFE. The expanded form offers enhanced flexibility, allowing it to easily conform to irregular and rough surfaces. Additionally, it is more compressible and exhibits outstanding resistance to creep and cold flow.

This particular style of joint sealant is supplied as a continuous tape, featuring a self-adhesive backing strip, making installation a breeze and ensuring a secure fit for various applications.

PTFE Thread Seal Tape

PTFE Thread Seal Tape is available in a wide range of sizes and standard specifications, making it suitable for use with plastic, brass, copper, aluminum, galvanized steel, or black iron pipes. This versatile tape is designed to cover multiple applications, including General Use, Oxygen Service, WRC, and Gas.

Conveniently applied as a sealant and lubricant for threaded joints, PTFE thread seal tape ensures reliable performance with various pipe materials. It offers the advantage of not hardening or drying out, preventing joints from freezing up. With an effective temperature range from -100°C to +260°C, this tape serves as a clean and efficient replacement for messy compounds.
